What is an example of an advocacy question? ›

There is nothing more important in advocacy campaigns than focusing everything we do on the answers to three key questions: (1) What do you want? (2) Why do you want it? (3) Who has the power to give it to you? The answers to those three questions must guide everything we do.

Advocacy campaigns require a strong network of supporters and allies to be successful. Building relationships with like-minded individuals and organizations is critical to expanding your reach and influence. Start by identifying potential partners who share your goals and values.

As an example, parents often advocate for their child's needs at school. Formal individual advocacy often goes through organizations like government agencies or nonprofits. When someone is escaping domestic violence, organizations help with shelter, medical care, mental healthcare, financial assistance, and more.

Advocacy messages tell the audience what he or she is being asked to do, why it is worth doing and what positive impact it will have on the issue. The languages used in key messages and communications must always be appropriate and understandable to the audience.

Always stick rigorously to the truth.

Search for the way in which you can present your case in total sincerity. Don't put a slick interpretation on the law or evidence as judges have an incredible nose for insincerity.
