How do I set the default SMS app? (2024)

If you installed more than one SMS app on your phone, you can set which app will send and receive SMS.

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Depending on your phone's Android version, do one of the following:
    • Android 7 or later: Tap How do I set the default SMS app? (1), and then enter and tap SMS app.
    • Android 6: Tap Apps, and then tap How do I set the default SMS app? (2) > Configure apps > Default apps > Default messaging app.
  3. Select your preferred messaging app.
