Is 27 a good grade in Italy? ›

Italian grading system is based on numerical marks which may vary between 18 and 30: 18-19 is the minimum pass grade, grades between 20-24 correspond to a satisfactory performance. grades between 25-27 correspond to a good performance.

For ordinary exams, universities in Italy use a 30-point scale that can be divided into failing (0 to 17) and passing (18 to 30 cum laude) grades. For final assessment of the entire degree, a 110-point scale is used, which is divided into two as well, with 66 being the minimum for a degree to be awarded.

Passing grades are 66 to 110, with the additional superior grade “110 e lode” (110 cum laude). The mark for the final degree is given on the basis of all marks obtained in exams, and on the evaluation of the final thesis.

Common examples of grade conversion are: A+ (97–100), A (93–96), A- (90–92), B+ (87–89), B (83–86), B- (80–82), C+ (77–79), C (73–76), C- (70–72), D+ (67–69), D (65–66), D- (below 65).

If your school uses a 90-100 scale for an A, then an average of 95 would be equivalent to a 4.0 GPA. If your school has a different grading scale, you can calculate your GPA by matching the percentage to the corresponding grade point value (A=4.0, B=3.0, etc.), and then taking the average of those values.

(Most schools use a weighted GPA out of 4.0, though some report an unweighted GPA. With a GPA of 4, Harvard requires you to be at the top of your class. You'll need nearly straight A's in all your classes to compete with other applicants.

In all cases, in the Italian grading system, students are graded according to a scale ranging from 0 to 30, with 18 as a passing mark. A cum laude may be added to the highest grade (30 e lode), as a special distinction. The lowest passing grade is 18. The grades from 18 to 30 are all used.

In Italy, the twelfth grade is the fourth year of high school (which is called "Scuola Superiore" or "Scuola secondaria di secondo grado"). There are five years of high school total, sometimes grouped in different ways (2+3, 2+1+2), depending on the type of high school the student is attending.

More specifically, exam pass grades in Italy range from 18 to 30. To have the possibility to get a final grade of 110/110, a student should typically average about 28 or more along the 3 years of the BsC degree or along the 2 years of the MsC degree.

The answer is No. The national average for a GPA is around 3.0 and a 1.7 GPA puts you below that average. A 1.7 GPA means that you've gotten only C-s and D+s in your high school classes so far. Since this GPA is significantly below a 2.0, it will make things very difficult for you in the college application process.
