What is the meaning of Lafpps? ›

Los Angeles Fire and Police Pensions is dedicated to administering the defined benefit retirement plan for sworn (Fire, Police, and certain Port Police and Airport Police) employees of the City of Los Angeles.

You receive 50% of your Final Average Salary at 20 years of service, plus 3% for each additional year of service; except in the 30th year you receive 4%. The maximum percentage payable is 90% of your Final Average Salary at 33 or more years of service.

The Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) is 3.4% for 2024 and was approved by the Board of Fire and Police Pension Commissioners on April 18, 2024.

The Deferred Retirement Option Plan (DROP) is an enhancement to the Fire and Police Pension Plan that can provide members with another way to save for their retirement years.

Deferred Vested Retirement 55 with 10 years of service only if 20 years have elapsed from date of membership. (You can begin receiving your benefits at age 50 if you have at least 25 years of service.)
