Oregon taxpayers can now find out how much of a kicker they’ll get (2024)

Oregon taxpayers can now find out how much of a kicker they’ll get when they file their taxes next spring.

Oregon’s unique kicker rebate kicks in when revenue outpaces predictions by more than two percent at the end of a two-year budget cycle. When that happens, all of the excess is sent back to taxpayers. The amount that goes to any given taxpayer is based on how much they paid the previous year.

This time, the state is sending back a record $1.9 billion to taxpayers. The rebates come in the form of a credit on the upcoming tax return.

For many households, this amounts to hundreds of dollars. The exact total can be found by multiplying last year’s Oregon tax liability by around 17 percent.

The Oregon Department of Revenue has a calculator on its website that lets people find their kicker amount by plugging in their Social Security number.

The state may withhold all or part of the kicker for people who owe back taxes, child support or court fines.
