Quickly select a large block of text (2024)

Q: I need to select a largechunk of text that doesn't all appear on the screen, clicking and dragging with the mouse doesn't work very well. The screen scrolls by so fast, I select too much text and then have to back up. Is there an easier way to do this?

A:
Left-click at the beginning of the desired block of text to move the insertion point (The caret that keeps blinking indicating the location at which the text will be inserted) to that spot. Now, use the scroll bar to scroll down in the text until you reach the end of the desired selection. Hold down the Shift key and click to select it all.
