You know how it’s like when you take a good look at your stainless steel appliances and wondered if that spouse of yours had just played a bad joke on you. By the looks of it, I swear Mr. V probably dipped his hands into oil, splash it all over and did an oil dance of some sort. I mean, how much oil does one’s fingers accumulate to have that much prints and smudges on the surfaces?
Water alone DOES NOT remove it. (Ok fine. If it’s the fresh type of prints or not heavily soiled types, water may remove it).
Neither does vinegar and dishwashing liquid.
Some ‘experts’ online suggested baby oil or cooking oil. Brilliant, right? I thought so. So I slab some oil and began to polish. I thought to myself what a super genius idea and was about to go give the guy a pat in the back when I realized the oil actually darkens the shade of the surface. So, I was left with having to oil and polish the entire surface area to get it uniformed in color. On top of that, once everything dried out, the prints were still there. It didn’t work.
The internet lies. It does.
I was on the brink of giving up when baking soda came to mind. I was already using it on my stainless steel cookware. It works brilliantly on them and so I thought it should do the same on the appliances. Upon the first wipe of baking soda and water paste, it was like magic… like cleaning a stain you know won’t come off but it was right before your very eyes. The prints hardheadedly stayed before and now it’s just gone. Gone, gone, gone. All hail B.S. alright. Baking Soda that is. What were you guys thinking? Now who deserves a pat in the back?
I’ve got one less thing to spend time cleaning and more time on my hands to do other stuff. You know like eating, reading, writing, cooking, opening and closing the damn stainless steel appliance doors and getting greasy fingerprints on them again.
Quick Method
what you need:
Baking soda and water, made into a thickpaste
directions:
- Use a clean rag and dip it into the baking soda paste.
- Wipe the dirty smudges and it should come right off.
- Use a separate damp rag towipe off the white powder residue baking powder leaves.
- Use a paper towel to wipe the surfaces dry so no streaks are left.
Notes:
1. Baking soda willdry up and bits willfall down to the floor when you wipe the appliances. Vacuum or sweep off after.
2. I tried a liquid solution of water and bakingsoda but it didn’t work as well as a thick paste.
