Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) explores the links between thoughts, emotions and behaviour. This meta-analysis found cognitive behavioural therapy has moderate efficacy for anxiety-related disorders.

- 41 studies with a total of 2,835 patients were included in this meta-analysis. Each study randomly assigned patients with different anxiety disorders to either a CBT or a placebo.
- CBT had moderate effects on reducing symptoms of the target disorder and other anxiety symptoms, as well as improving depression and quality of life.
- Anxiety disorders are the most prevalent class of mental disorders, with 12-month prevalence rates of 21.3% in the United States (1) and 11.6% worldwide (2).
- CBT is as effective as medication in treating depression and anxiety disorders, and may be more effective than medication in the long-term treatment of depression.
