Things Not to Do in Persona 5 - Persona 5 Guide - IGN (2024)

For party members who tend to waste a lot of SP in battle, consider setting their tactic to Conserve SP or Direct Commands. Also, use attack items in place of your skills when you feel able to so that you don't waste SP in every battle, either.

Don't Be a Trophy Hunter on Your First Playthrough

This game is made to be played multiple times and, thus, its trophies are made for that, too. You definitely cannot get every trophy on your first playthrough since 2 trophies are only available in NG+. The first playthrough should be spent on raising your social stats as high as possible so that you can unlock confidants quicker in NG+. Try focusing on specific aspects of the game with each playthrough if you really want to get every trophy. Even still, for your first playthrough, if you try to do it all, you won't finish any of it.

Don't Sleep!

We're not joking with this one, no matter how inflammatory it sounds. There should never be a night where you go to sleep on your own accord. If the game doesn't give you any other option but to go straight to bed, that's fine, but if you can do something, do it. Read a book, make tools, take a bath, spend time with someone, and so on.

You have a limited amount of time. Make sure you use it wisely. If you're ever unsure of what there is to do, hit the touch pad on the PS4 controller or the Select button on the PS3 and find out what other people did that night. There is always something to do.

Never Leave Home Without A Book

On some occasions, you'll find yourself sitting on the train with time to read a book. Sometimes you'll have nothing else to do on a rainy day or a lonely night. Always have a book to read. You can rent one at a time for free from your library and you'll progressively unlock them there for each Phantom Thief that joins you team. Always have one on you and then buy one or two for when you run out of rentals. They're a great way to get social stat points. You should also buy books from Jinbocho, where they sell you books that take a while to read, but you'll get the book "Speed Reading", which allows you to read twice as fast.

Don't Waste Time on Information Books

To tie into the point above, there are certain books that reward social stat points and others that teach you something. There are a rare few exceptions to this, but for the most part, do not waste time reading books that teach you things, especially ones that teach you about locations. You'll go to just about every location in the game through the story and with your Confidants(except for Chinatown). If you're on a second play through, go ahead and read ones that might teach you a perk, but otherwise, only read books on locations you've already been to since they'll automatically complete when Morgana realizes you've been to the location discussed. Then, just read something else.
