Honestly Toothless is infinitely loveable and awesome that’s indefinite. Even though Toothless is incredibly awesome and powerful Thunder is still very loveable and awesome as well. Personally I dont find any negativity out of either of them regardless and love both of them endlessly Toothless may be more stronger but their both loveable adorable and awesome and they have great sense of Heart and Soul.
As for their slight physical differences, their backs, wings, legs, ears and claws are very alike. On the other hand after the evolution over the 1300 years all the Night Lights appear to have adapted and evolved and developed new features and abilities such as their new unique tail wings they each have compared to each other like thunders father mother and the elder. Thunders dual tail wing is likely an evolution feature the Night Lights developed over the 1300 years or something to do with a Night Light breeding with another species of dragons.
Another thing is Thunders head appears somewhat differently shaped compared to Toothless.
Toothless’s snout makes his head a little more elongated and sharp looking.
A reason why I think the slight facial differences make sense is because Thunder isn’t entirely Night Fury hes a Night Light and also half Light Fury and Light Furies appear to have less longer heads compared to Night Furies.
Thunders snout seems to make his head ever so slightly longer than a Light Fury but slightly less longer than Night Furies so the way his face looks does just about make him seem like the hybrid Night Light that hes suppose to be.
Thunder may not have the same level of strength as Toothless YET but hes doing very well with his current amount of power and right now he’s technically younger than Toothless was in movie 2 when he gained the ability Blue Alpha and he’s getting stronger with every day and everything he goes through with Tom eventually in the future when he gets a little older he actually could get much closer to gaining a special Fury Dragon ability and become much more powerful than he already is. And honestly regardless of his current amount of power his heart and soul are always in the right place and hes also a perfect big brother and great at protecting his little siblings and his endless devotion to respecting and protecting his ancestors and their history is a very selfless and soulful thing to do if Toothless and Luna could meet him they would be so proud of him as their great descendant and everything he has done for his family. Thunder really does take after his 10X great grandfather.
