What font is the UW logo in? ›

The UW brand employs font families — Encode Sans, Uni Sans Book and Open Sans — that fuse functionality with a bold, confident presence.

The UW's purple and gold colors were selected by students in the 1890s. These colors continue to radiate the University's vibrant traditions and deep roots.

All products: All uses of University trademarks on products require prior approval from the UW Trademarks and Licensing office, even if the proposed uses do not involve the sale of a product; e.g. promotional items for conferences or meetings, items for fundraisers, gifts, etc.

UW color palette

The UW brand includes a color palette limited to purple (HEX: 4b2e83), gold (HEX: e8e3d3), metallic gold (HEX: 85754d) and grays.

However, you should make sure to pick a font that's easy to read. The usual standards in academia tend to be the Times, Helvetica/Arial, and Computer Modern families. This doesn't restrict you from using fonts like Book Antiqua, Myriad Pro, Goudy Old Style, or Garamond, but they're definitely not standard.

Roman or Cambria. All papers should also be written with 12-point font. (Note: Times New Roman and Cambria are the default fonts for Microsoft Word, and 12-point font is also the default setting for font size).

The letter "W" is called 'Double U' (pronounced double you). If you shorten the pronunciation of the letter 'W' to one syllable, then it will be just called as Dub. Hence, the university is sometimes referred to as UDub.

A “UW” is an Unofficial Withdrawal and is given when you stop attending class for any reason without officially withdrawing from the course. It is counted like a failing grade in your GPA.

The name Huskies and the regal colors of Purple and Gold probably don't immediately come together in your mind, but UW's colors were voted on by the student body in 1896. The Purple and Gold color scheme, taken from Lord Byron's poem above, predates the Husky nickname by a decade or more.
