What does "Your tax return is still being processed. A refund date will be provided when available." Exactly mean?

My bars also disappeared which now after googling why i really can’t nail down a real reason but so far I have heard getting reviewed, irs moving slow and a bunch of other stuff ( none of it good ) and i really want to know what the $&@? the tax codes are for if the irs is not going to use them, because if you are being reviewed is there not a tax code for this or if they require further identification is there not a code for that, some of the lucky few get there bars back and a ddd(direct deposit date) but for those who don’t, we should have a explanation and we shouldn’t have to track down a answers amongst each other and who ever we filed threw should try hard to track down a answer for us because if there are like hundreads of threads and thousands asking STOP GIVING US THE SAME INFO WE ALREADY HAVE I WOULD RATHER NOT BE TREATED LIKE IM NOT SMART ENOUGH TO READ THEVERY VAGUEEXPLANATION THE IRS GAVE US REAPTED TO ME. ( not trying to be rude but i’m getting sick of this run around) so My question is what does it mean, i’m sure ttax knows how many people keep asking this do you know at least in percentages like “ 10% get there’s with no further info and 75% require further information and so on so forth ) please say something other then wait the 21 day then call because that is bs because why would i wait 21 days to find out that they needed more info when they knew as soon as my bars disappeared!!!!!

That message, "Your tax return is still being processed. A refund date will be provided when available," typically appears when the IRS is still working on finalizing your tax return. It's a general message that indicates your return has not yet completed processing and is still under review or pending further action.

Now, diving into the concepts in your query:

Tax Return Processing:

  1. Bars Disappeared: The "bars" disappearing on the IRS Where's My Refund tool indicates that the return is still being processed. Bars disappearing may occur when the return is under review or needs further attention.

  2. Review Process: When a return is being reviewed, it could be for various reasons, such as discrepancies in reported income, potential errors, or the need for additional documentation.

  3. Tax Codes and Processes: The IRS uses various tax codes and procedures to handle different situations, such as reviews or additional documentation requirements. However, these codes might not be explicitly disclosed to taxpayers due to the complexity of individual cases.

  4. Direct Deposit Date (DDD): Some taxpayers see a Direct Deposit Date on the Where's My Refund tool, indicating when they can expect their refund. However, for others, this date might not appear due to ongoing processing.

  5. Communication Issues: Frustration arises when the IRS's explanations are vague or when there's a lack of detailed information regarding the status of individual tax returns.

  6. Waiting Periods: The 21-day wait period is a standard guideline provided by the IRS for taxpayers to allow for the processing of returns. However, if the bars disappear or there are other indications of a prolonged review, this waiting period might not provide immediate clarity.

Percentage of Cases:

Unfortunately, specific percentages or statistics regarding the proportion of returns needing further information versus those that don’t aren't typically publicly disclosed. Each case is unique and can vary based on individual circ*mstances.

Filing Assistance:

Tax professionals or the service you filed through may assist in tracking down more specific information regarding the status of your return. They can sometimes communicate directly with the IRS to get updates or clarification on the review process.

The frustration expressed about the lack of clarity in explanations from the IRS is valid. It's essential to remain patient, seek assistance from tax professionals or the filing service used, and consider contacting the IRS if the wait extends beyond the usual processing time.
