What is difference between "update" and "enable content" ? [SOLVED] (2024)

I was able to see the two different messages in question:

1) "SECURITY WARNING! Some active content has been disabled. Check for more details." And there is a box with "ENABLE CONTENT."

2) "This workbook contains links to one or more external sources that could be unsafe. If you trust the links, update them to get the latest data. Otherwise, you can keep working with the data you have." And there are three boxes with "UPDATE" "DON'T UPDATE" "HELP"

The file I am using is linking to customer files on our C:DRIVE, so there is absolutely no concern that any links have security issues. The file also uses a macro to consolidate information.

Each morning I want to update the file to the latest customer data available. When message 2) is presented upon opening the file, it's a no-brainer that I'm getting the latest customer data. But when message 2) pops up instead of message 1) .... I'm not clear that my customer data is the latest.

Is there a way to UPDATE a file after it has been open and worked in? Or do you need to close it and reopen to perform an update?

Thank you for any assistance with this!
