Why does BBC website default to BBC com? ›
Using your IP address, the BBC assume you are in the country allocated to that IP range. Generally, then, if you are outside the UK you will be redirected to bbc.com. However, if you use a VPN, you can usually specify an IP address from whichever country you choose - if you specify the UK, you will see bbc.co.uk.
