Why can't I access the Where's My refund?
You must wait at least 24 hours after you get the acknowledgment e-mail that your tax return was received by the IRS. Your e-filed return was accepted (received) by the IRS less than 24 hours ago. Wait at least 24 hours after acceptance before using WMR. Your return is still pending.
The only way for you to determine the exact refund amount (for the IRS Where is My Refund tracker) is to look at your tax return. Unfortunately, there is no one at TurboTax that can provide you with that number.
There are a few reasons why your refund is less than expected this tax season: Tax benefits under the American Rescue Plan either reverted or went away for tax year 2022. The IRS made adjustments due to differences in what is reported to them or adjustments to certain credits and deductions.
A common cause of delayed tax return processing, leading to delayed refunds, is missing information on the return. "Failure to include basic information, such as the Social Security numbers of dependents, can significantly hold up a refund," according to Lee E.
Reasons Your Tax Refund Can Be Delayed
Missing information. A need for additional review. Possible identity theft or tax fraud. A claim for an earned income tax credit or an additional child tax credit.
If the IRS is reviewing your return, it may have questions about your wages and withholding, or credits or expenses shown on your tax return. The review process could take anywhere from 45 to 180 days, depending on the number and types of issues the IRS is reviewing.
Not to worry–the IRS has a dedicated Refund Hotline set up at 1-800-829-1954. Make sure to have your Social Security number or Taxpayer Identification Number, filing status and exact refund amount available when you make the call.
IRS has an on-line tool, "Where's My Tax Refund", at www.irs.gov that will provide the status of a tax refund using the taxpayer's SSN, filing status, and refund amount.
