Where do I claim my stimulus check on TurboTax?
If you're completing your tax return on your own, the credit can be claimed on line 30 of Form 1040 or Form 1040-SR. Instructions for completing this line are included in Form 1040's instructions.
TurboTax will ask you upfront if you received a stimulus payment and help you claim the Recovery Rebate Credit and other tax deductions and credits you're eligible for based on your entries.
If you received the stimulus payment in 2021, you should have an IRS letter “Notice 1444-C” showing the amount you received so you can record it on your tax return. If you didn't receive the most recent stimulus payment, you can claim it when you file your 2021 tax return.
How do we enter this info? You enter the amount received for the third stimulus in the Federal review section. Any stimulus amount remaining due to you will show as a credit on line 30 of your form 1040.
- Go back into your return.
- Go to Federal/ Personal section.
- Go to Other Tax Situations (after the income and deductions areas)
- Then click Done with Other.
- Let's double check the amount you received, verify your information.
To claim your stimulus payment, look for Line 30 on your 1040 tax form.
None of the three stimulus checks (or Recovery Rebate Credits) are considered income, and therefore aren't taxable. They won't reduce your refund or increase what you owe when you file your taxes this year, or next. They also won't affect your eligibility for any federal government assistance or benefits.
- Sign into your account and continue from where you left off.
- Click on Federal in the left-hand column, then on Federal Review on the top of the screen.
- On the next page titled Let's double-check the amount you received; TurboTax will recommend the amount you should receive as per your filing info.
You can check on the status of your third stimulus check by visiting the IRS Get My Payment tool, available in English and Spanish. If you are missing your third stimulus check, file your 2020 tax return or use GetCTC.org (available until November 15, 2022) if you don't have a filing requirement.
The biggest change to Federal Form 1040 is that a new Line 30 has been added for the Recovery Rebate Credit. This is for taxpayers who didn't receive payments or could have received a larger payment from the government when economic impact payments (stimulus checks) went out in 2021.
What is line 30 on IRS Form 1040?
You report the final amount on Line 30 of your 2021 federal income tax return (Form 1040 or Form 1040-SR). The recovery rebate credit is a "refundable" credit, which means you'll get a tax refund if the credit is larger than the tax that you would otherwise have to pay.
the first Economic Impact Payment was $1,200 ($2,400 if married filing jointly) plus $500 for each qualifying child you had in 2020; and. the second Economic Impact Payment was $600 ($1,200 if married filing jointly) plus $600 for each qualifying child you had in 2020.

If you have already filed the 2020 tax return, file an amended tax return for 2020 to claim the first and second stimulus. Enter 0 in the recovery rebate credit worksheet while preparing the amended return if you have not received the first and second stimulus.
