School-Readiness Testing
Children usually start Grade 1 in the year in which they turn seven. Children who will be turning six during the year can start school if they are shown to be ready for school.
Your child must be able to have a conversation in their home language. They should be able to express themselves so that others can understand. Basic numbers and letters, understanding the concept of time (before, after, day, night, etc.) and must be able to follow and remember the details of stories.
Ultimately, you should consider skipping only if your child is academically ahead of his peers and has the emotional and social maturity to handle the jump.

First Grade is a determinative year in a child's reading and language skills. This is the year students ideally become fluent readers, and their grammatical structures become complex.

Students need to know that grades are just numbers used to classify people and are ineffective in separating smart people from others.

Kids between 8 and 12 are called “tweens” because they are in between children and teenagers. It's very normal for kids this age to start to move from being very close to parents to wanting to be more independent. But they still need a lot of help from their parents.

A child should be seven years of age for much of first grade. If her birthday is in the winter she should turn 7 in first grade, thus having half the year as a 6 year-old and half as a 7 year-old. One does not want a child turning 8 in first grade.
