Depths of Mementos - Persona 5 Guide - IGN (2024)

The following is IGN's walkthrough for most ofDecember 24 (12/24) and the final Palace in Persona 5, the Depths of Mementos.

advertisem*nt

This dungeon must be completed in a single day. However, you can leave to get healing items from the clinic in Yogen-Jaya or gear from the Airsoft shop in Shibuya whenever you please. All you have to do is go to the top floor of Mementos. But you can't go to those stores anymore after you descend the area beyond the second Safe Room in this dungeon.

The following are the Personas that you can get in this Palace: Dionysus (Fool), Kali (Empress), Baal (Emperor), Thor (Chariot), Dominion (Justice), Melchizedek (Justice), Moloch (Hanged), Mot (Death), Chernobog (Death), Nebiros (Devil), Mara (Tower), Lilith (Moon)

Infiltration

advertisem*nt

You will automatically enter Mementos after school and you'll need to make your way down to the Path of Sheriruth: Area 14, a total of 66 floors down into Mementos. If you haven't already reached the bottom, it might take you some time to get there. If you have, simply fast travel down to the previously mentioned floor. Head through the door at the end of the floor to start your full infiltration.

Full video walkthrough for the the Mementos Depths available via this [link], starting at 1:41:22

You must complete this Palace in one day. You have no other choice. If you find yourself struggling, return to the entrance of the Depths of Mementos and speak to Caroline outside of the Velvet Room. She will fully restore your HP and SP.

Path of Iweleth: Area 1

This section only has a single floor. Approach the massive door at the end of it to head into the Depths of Mementos.

Entrance

This will be your starting rally position for when you need to go to the Velvet Room and the like. Caroline and Justine are nearby and talking to Caroline will fully heal your HP and SP. When you're ready, head down the path to the south-west and jump across the platforms beside the path to get around the crowd. You'll come across a large window with red light in it that you can climb into.

advertisem*nt

Prison Passageway

For this first part, follow the path and investigate the people within. You'll then fight two Shadows call Pagan Saviors. They block Curse and use strong Physicalattacks but are weak to Wind.

When they're down, continue north along the path until it goes no further. Go to the red panel, marked by a white platform on your minimap, and interact with it. It will show you the puzzle for this area. What you need to do is make all the sections glowblue to open the path onwards. Take the following route, starting from the panel you interact with (use the minimap's orientation): South, south, east, north, east, north, west, west, panel.

advertisem*nt

Interact with the panel when all the sections are blue and you'll be able to continue. Doing so will spawn in Shadow reinforcements. Though you don't need to fight them, they will chase you down immediately, making it likely that you will have to. The three Shadows will try to brainwash your team and will use Curse attacks.

advertisem*nt

Keep heading north and you'll eventually come across a door to the north-east.

In this next room, start by jumping down the ledges to the floor below, but watch out for the Shadow that's patrolling down there. Carry on down the path until you reach the next puzzle. Take the following path to complete it (use the minimap's orientation): East, west, east, east, east, west, west, north, south, east, west, west, east, west, panel.

From there on, the path is quite straightforward to the next puzzle. For this one, follow these directions: South, south, north, east, south, south, north, west, north, north, panel. Head on through once you've opened the path.

Cavernous Area

Consider this your first checkpoint, though you have a long way to go. Head east and travel deeper into Mementos.

Prison Passageway

Head down the path and you'll come across those you stole hearts from. It's an unsettling sight to see them together so calmly, but they seem oddly at peace.

Like before, Shadows will spawn in that you can try to run from, but it's a smarter choice to hold your ground and fight. The shadows will take the forms of two Liliths (Moon) which are weak to Fire and one Nebiros (Devil) which is weak to Bless. Upon defeating them, two The Black Avengers/Chernobogs (Death) may spawn in to fight you. They drain Windand block Electricity but re also weak to Fire. However, it is not guaranteed that they will spawn in, especially if you don't run.

advertisem*nt

Continue along to the steps and up to the next room. Make your way east and then north until you can climb down and across platforms. Follow these platforms around to the south and make your way through the door at the lower east side of the room.

Climb up and then down the raised platforms and you'll quickly come to a safe room. Before sure to head in and save. From there, head north to where there's another puzzle. Unfortunately, you won't be able to complete the puzzle yet as there isn't enough freedom of mobility.

If you find yourself struggling against the enemies, take time now to train against them. They will reset after going into the safe room. It's only going to get harder from here.

advertisem*nt

Head south of the safe room you were just at and you'll find a rather strong Shadow guarding something. Take it on to get what it's protecting. It drains Curse and Physical but is weak to Psychic and Nuclear, so bring Haru and Makoto into this fight. Take it out and pick up the Shining/Vermilion Disk that was behind it. That this disk back to the puzzle area and use it on the gate that's in the middle of it.

Once you've used the Vermilion Disk, follow these directions to open the path: South, east, west, east, south, north, south, west, east, south, west, west, north, north, east, north, panel.

Cavernous Void

This will be the second cavern you'll have entered so far, but you still have a distance to travel. Head deeper into the depths of Mementos.

Prison Passageway

As you move through this passage, you'll quickly come across a strange cell. This was, in fact, where Mona was born.

However, you'll just as quickly be interrupted by three Shadows. The two Wandering Revivers are weak to Bless and resist Psychic while they use Curse attacks. The Missionary of Depravity will use strong melee attacks and blocks Curse. Ultimately, they shouldn't be too much for you to handle at this point.

advertisem*nt

Once more, head down the linear path to the next puzzle panel. Those with a keen eye may notice that there is an invisible platform opposite the panel. You will need to use it for the following directions: West, west, south, south, east, east, north, north, panel. Continue on through the door to the next room.

In this next room, you will need another Vermilion Disk to solve the puzzle, so leave it for now. Instead, head north and then follow the path west to a different puzzle. This time, though, you have a limited number of moves before the platforms reset! The counter (lights on the platforms) will decrease each time you step onto a platform. You can solve this one with the following directions: West, south, east, east, west, east, north, west, panel. This will cause the Vermilion Disk to be revealed to you. Take it to the gate at the previous puzzle and use it.

Once you've used it, follow these directions to solve this puzzle: East, east, west, west, south, east, east, north, north, west, west, south, panel. You can then proceed down to the door to the next room.

This room will contain three puzzles all in the same vicinity! To start, do the one to the south-east and follow these directions: South, north, north, east, west, south, north, south, panel.

advertisem*nt

Next, go to the puzzle to the west and follow these directions: East, east, south, south, west, west, west, north, north, panel.

Now go to the final puzzle to the north and follow these directions: West, south, north, south, south, south, west, north, north, north, east, east, panel.

After that, you'll have completed all the puzzles in this Palace! Continue through the path and make sure to go to the safe room. After this, you'll have reached the depths.

Shrine

The shrine contains something sinister. It is the manifestations of all the distorted desires and fears of society. Head down and face it.

The Treasure of Mementos has no resistances or weaknesses. It will use the following moves:

  • Arrow of Light: Almighty attack to one target.
  • Will of the People: Full heal.

advertisem*nt

Keep attacking it until it uses the Will of the People ability. Your fight is fruitless. You cannot win. It is the Holy Grail, the distorted, but true, desires of humanity. Now, you must survive it.

The Holy Grail will continue to fight you just as it did before. Deal damage to it as efficiently as possible. However, it will heal on each of its turns, each time becoming stronger and more vibrant until it goes from a ruined cup to a goblet of gold and light. To save time, simply Rush it.

Shibuya

advertisem*nt

The Holy Grail will return you to Shibuya just before it starts to corrupt the world. And then you shall cease to exist entirely.

The Velvet Room

Or will you prevail?

According to Igor, you have succumbed to ruin and the world shall follow. As such, your contract has been failed and you are to pay with your life.

Stand and fight. If Igor wishes for your death, don't go down so easily. Face off against the powerful twin wardens to the best of your abilities. They will use some of the most powerful attacks known and you will be helpless to stop them, and yet you shall endure, Trickster.

Full video walkthrough for the the Velvet Room available via this [link], starting at 2:48:03

There shall be an execution, but not of your own and not one of death. Execute Caroline and Justine to bring forth the one who has called out to you since the beginning of your journey. Fuse them together so that they may once more be Lavenza!

advertisem*nt

Ruin or Rehabilitation?

You shall face the one who has stolen the identity of the Velvet Room's master and rank up to the final rank of the Fool Confidant. The God of Control shall then give you a choice: Let him control the world but restore peace or risk everything and challenge him.

If you agree to his terms, you shall move to the end of the game based on the Good Ending. If you reject his terms, you shall risk ruin but walk the path of Truth and Rehabilitation. This guide will continue with the presumption that you wish to achieve the True Ending.

advertisem*nt

Refuse the God of Control and the true Igor shall be restored to the Velvet Room. He is a far less sinister man, though he looks the same.

advertisem*nt

After speaking to Igor and Lavenza, you will need to free all your friends from the chains of their own captivity. Free their hearts from their fears by helping them restore their own courage and will. Simply search around the halls past the Velvet Room and speak to each member of the Phantom Thieves until you've found them all.

Upon being reunited with everyone, including Morgana, it will be time to return to your world to face off against the God of Control. Head up the stairs with your friends and go through the Quarantine Cell's door.

Shibuya Station Square, Qliphoth World

When you are ready, continue up the stairs to the true final Palace! There are no puzzles in this Palace and it is a very linear path to the end with progressively harder mini-bosses along the way, so prepare!

In between fights you can return to Shibuya Station Square (the Palace entrance) and have your HP and SP fully restored by Lavenza. Make full use of this!

Path to the Holy Grail

advertisem*nt

Head north up the path and you'll quickly confront the first Shadow mini-boss of this Palace: the Herald of Death!

Herald of Death

The Herald of Death is an angelic defender of the false god and can summon Zealous Messengers (Angel). All foes you'll face seem to be susceptible to critical hits from both firearms and physical attacks (they aren't weak to them, though). Try using those on them to bring them down.

Full video walkthrough for the Qliphoth World available via this [link], starting at 3:30:15

advertisem*nt

The Zealous Messengers will use Recarmdra to fully heal their allies while removing all but 1 HP from themselves, so be sure to take them down by using Curse skills that they are weak to. Mamudoon works great since it's a Curse skill that can kill them all instantly.

The Herald of Death can use a severe single-target physical attack (Myriad Slashes), Megidola (Heavy Almighty that hits the whole party), and Deathbound (astrong physical attack that hits the whole party with a chance of Despair). It has no weaknesses. It can also use two actions per turn.

The more you fight and win against these powerful Shadows, the more the people of the city will start to remember and support the Phantom Thieves. Once you've defeated the Herald of Death, continue up to the next set of paths.

There will now be Shadows on guard, so watch out. Ultimately, it doesn't matter if you take the left or right path as both leads to the same location, so take whichever looks the most appealing to you. All have roughly the same number of Shadows and there's a powerful Shadow near the top.

Once you get to the top, you'll face another powerful Shadow: the Cleanser of Heaven!

Cleanser of Heaven

This one has no weaknesses and will use Heat Riser to power up all its stats as well as Charge, making it extremely deadly! Be sure to have Ann with you so that she can use Dekaja to remove those buffs. It can use two actions per turn.

advertisem*nt

Its main attack is a move called Sword Dance, a colossal damaging Physical attack that will kill just about anyone that doesn't have Endure if it's powered up. If you've removed its buffs, there's a chance that you or your teammates will survive the hit, so make that a priority. Once again, though, this Shadow seems to be somewhat more susceptible to critical hits from physical and ranged attacks, so try using those to get a few All-out Attacks in.

Defeating this enemy will make even more people realise the terrors that surround them. Your efforts are working!

Continue on to the next area and head north to get to the third mini-boss: the Declarer of Anguish!

Declarer of Anguish

advertisem*nt

Once again, this Shadow will have no weaknesses but will use some very powerful Physical attacks, such as Divine Judgement. It will also be able to use two actions per turn. Use Down Shot to get it down quickly for an All-out Attack.

This Shadow will also use Ma--dyne affinity skills (Ice, Electric, etc.) to hit your whole party with heavy magic damage or Cosmic Flare to hit you all with Severe Nuclear damage. Unlike the previous fights, this Shadow does not seem to have a higher than normal susceptibility to critical hits.

After watching more people come to their senses, head up to the next set of paths.

It's more or less a straight shot to the head with only a couple Shadows on the sides. At the top of this section will be the fourth and final mini-boss: the Apocalyptic Guide!

Apocalyptic Guide, Shrine Entrance

This Shadow is the strongest of the mini-bosses you've faced so far and will use abilities that you've seen with the others. It will most likely start with summoning Zealous Messengers (weak to Curse). The Apocalyptic Guide has no weaknesses but does drain Light. It will also use a very deadly combo: Charge + Sword Dance. Since it can use two actions each turn, this is a very lethal combo to face, so be sure to boost your party's defence and evasion/accuracy early on.

Just as before, the Zealous Messengers will support the main Shadow a great deal with stat boosts and healing skills, so be sure to take them down quickly. Curse skills like Mamudoon work great here since it can kill them all instantly.

advertisem*nt

The Apocalyptic Guide can also use Divine Judgement and Cosmic Flare, just like the last mini-boss. However, unlike the last mini-boss, the Apocalyptic Guide does have a somewhat higher susceptibility to critical hits to make the fight fairer.

One of its most powerful attacks is Megidoloan, a Severe Almighty skill that hits your whole party. Bring in Fox and/or Skull to deal physical damage with the chance of getting those critical hits in. Mona is also a great choice since he has physical attacks with high critical hit rates in themselves.

Once this final Shadow is defeated, you can enter the temple.

advertisem*nt

Holy Grail

This fight will be much like the previous one you had, but this time you're going to win. At the start of the battle, send someone to cut the veins feeding into the Holy Grail so that it cannot get healed by the enslaved masses. You and your remaining two teammates will have to dish out as much damage as possible to keep it distracted. It will use the following moves and can only use one action per turn.

Full video walkthrough for the boss fight versus the Holy Grail available via this [link], starting at 3:49:07

  • Light Edge: Almighty sweep that hits the whole party.
  • Arrow of Light: Single-target Almighty Ranged attack.
  • Diffraction Arrow: Almighty Ranged attack on two targets with chance of Forget.

The Holy Grail still has no weaknesses or resistances and without its healing abilities, it's actually a rather easy fight. However, once you've cut the veins, it'll use new moves:

  • Gathering Light: Charges for one turn.
  • Eternal Light: Colossal Almighty attack against your whole party.

When the Holy Grail uses Gather Light, guard! It's about to use its most powerful move: Eternal Light.

God of Control, Yaldabaoth

advertisem*nt

This being is the strongest enemy in the game and the true form of the Holy Grail. It is the evil God of Control. Yaldabaoth has no weaknesses or resistances (though it cannot be affected by instant kill skills) and will gain more actions per turn as the battle goes on. It cannot be downed by Down Shot.

The evil god will become more and more powerful as time goes on by bringing out arms that can each attack differently. Each arm he adds is another action he can take that turn. For the most part, you will want to destroy the evil god's additional arms to make the fight easier. Each arm has a maximum HP of 1,500.

Below is all the information you'll need to fight it:

advertisem*nt

Yaldabaoth

  • Arrow of Light: Almighty Ranged attack on one target.
  • Manifest [Item]: Brings back one destroyed arm with half health (750 HP)
  • Divine Apex: Charges for two turns to use Rays of Control.
  • Rays of Control: Colossal Almighty attack against your party.

Gun of Execution

The gun reflects Ranged and Wind attacks.

  • Distorted Lust: Inflicts Lust onto on party member for one turn. Target might help Yaldaboth.
  • Capital Punishment: Single-target ranged attack.
  • Shoot Up: Triple-target ranged attack.

Bell of Declaration

The bell reflects Fire and Psychic attacks.

  • Distorted Vanity: Makes on target weak to all affinities for one turn.
  • Distorted Avarice: Damages and inflicts Hunger to one target for one turn. Target will have greatly reduced attack.
  • Distorted Envy: Inflicts one target with Jealousy. Target will occasionally attack party members.
  • Gospel: Almighty damage to one target.
  • Frail Law: Defence down for your whole party.

advertisem*nt

Sword of Conviction

The sword blocks Physical and repels Electric attacks.

  • Distorted Gluttony: Doubles the cost of using skills.
  • Sword of Judgement: Physical sweep to your whole party.
  • Wind Cutter: Single-target Physical attack.

Book of Commandments

advertisem*nt

The book repels Ice and Nuclear attacks.

  • Distorted Wrath: Inflicts Wrath to one target for one turn. Target might not act rationally or listen.
  • Distorted Pride: Charges for one turn to use Divine Punishment, but only if an enemy attacks. It can be used multiple times until its next turn.
  • Divine Punishment: The attacking party member will lose SP immediately.
  • Wrath of God: Single-target Almighty attack.

Yaldabaoth will inflict Lust, Vanity, Gluttony, and Wrath (starting in that order) during the first half of the fight (when its HP is above 50%). Once you drop its health below 50%, it will start using Avarice, Envy, and Pride (starting in that order). The key to surviving this fight is to destroy the arms as quickly as possible. Make sure to use attacks that hit multiple targets, such as magic attacks that start with "Ma-".

Full video walkthrough for the boss fight versus Yaldabaoth available via this [link], starting at 3:57:48

Two of the best party members to bring into this fight are Queen (Makoto) and Noir (Haru). Both of them have excellent support moves, very strong kinetic attacks, and Queen can use Nuclear attacks that hurt all of Yaldaboth's arms and body.

Once you get Yaldabaoth down to 1/4 of its health, it will become a substantially more difficult fight. Yaldabaoth will restore all of its four arms to full health and use Divine Apex to charge up its most powerful attack. At this point, you have two choices: attack the body for one turn and then guard on the second turn in hopes that you survive or Futaba protects you (if your Hermit Confidant is Rank 10) or focus on destroying one of the arms to weaken the attack and then guard. The latter most likely can only be done if one of the arms wasn't revived and is already weak. Either way, consider boosting your team's evasion before it uses Rays of Control on the whole team to try to kill you.

If you survive, focus only on Yaldaboth's body and bring it down. It will most likely attack you with all arms and body for a turn or two before charging back up for one final attack. If you manage to defeat Yaldaboth, you will have shown it the power to resist ruin, but even that won't be enough.

The Aftermath

advertisem*nt

You have been defeated and forgotten, but it only takes on spark to start the fires of rebellion, and that spark is Yuuki Mishima, Sojiro Sakura, and every single person who you've helped. They will start the inferno of rebellion that the world needs to press on.

Rise once more to face off against the wicked god of control. With thousands of rallying voices behind you, take control of the ultimate power of the Trickster and the World: Satanael! It takes a demon lord to show a corrupt god the path to rehabilitation...or in this case, ruin.

Fire off Satanael's Sinful Shell to execute the God of Control, Yaldaboath.
