Genshin Impact 3.0: If you want Tighnari, don't wait for the Standard Banner (2024)

Genshin Impact version 3.0 is almost upon us, with Travelers finally getting to see the new nation of Sumeru and wield the power of the Dendro element. The new version brings a lot more content to the table as well, including the first batch of playable Sumeru characters.

Headlining that first batch of Sumeru characters is Tighnari, the 5-star Dendro bow wielder.

But while Tighnari will debut in the Event Banner of version 3.0, he will then be moved to the Standard Banner by version 3.1.

Many players have been going back and forth about whether or not they should pull for Tighnari in his debut Event Banner, since they can just skip that and potentially get him from the Standard Banner instead.

Although we advocate for your own way of playing, you shouldn’t skip wishing for Tighnari in his debut banner if you really want him.

Here's why:

The Event Banner and Standard Banner are leagues different from each other

Every corner of the internet has been echoing this sentiment: “Tighnari will be a Standard Banner character soon so I’ll skip his debut banner and pull for him in the Standard Banner instead.”

Oooh boy, here’s where I have to disagree.

If you remember how the Standard Banner works, you know that there’s no guarantee in your pulls there, except getting a 5-star in 90 pulls or less.

This means that you can get any 5-star, both characters and weapons, in the Standard Banner, with no way of knowing which one you'll be getting.

So far, the Standard Banner offers Jean, Diluc, Mona, Qiqi, and Keqing for 5-star characters as well as The Skyward weapon series, Amos’ Bow, Wolf’s Gravestone, Primordial Jade Winged Spear, Lost Prayer to the Sacred Winds, and Aquila Favonia.

That means when Tighnari is added to the Standard Banner, you only have a 1-in-16 chance of getting him.

This is why some players still have an incomplete roster of standard 5-star characters, or end up with multiple copies of the same weapon or character. Meaning you could have no Jean and a C25 Qiqi.

Genshin Impact 3.0: If you want Tighnari, don't wait for the Standard Banner (1)

Personally, I want Jean constellations but ended up getting my Skyward Pride to refinement rank 2, while my Skyward Spine is already at refinement rank 3.

In the eight times I’ve pulled gold on the standard banner (more or less 640 pulls), the only 5-star characters I’ve gotten have been Diluc and Keqing.

Statistically, my standard banner isn’t doing so good, especially because I'm character-oriented.

And I know I’m not the only one with this sentiment. A lot of players I know who are at end-game content still haven’t completed the 5-star standard characters.

I mean, it took me a year and a half of playing before even getting Mona, and even then I got her when I lost 50/50 in the event banner.

There’s a significant risk to waiting for Tighnari to appear in a standard wish, in that it might literally take you a year or more to get him (if ever).

It’s not recommended to spend money on the Standard Banner, but the rate of how frequently you get Acquaint Fates for free (the blue wish currency for Standard Banner) is too low to hope you can get him as soon as you would want to.

If you’re a light-spender who only buys Blessing of the Welkin Moon, or are free-to-play, your only chances of getting Acquaint Fates is when the Starglitter Shop resets, when you increase your Adventure Rank, complete Adventure Rank ascension Quests, or when you ascend a character.

The latter options are not viable if you’ve already built most of your newer characters, have reached end-game content, or have finished all your adventure rank ascension quests.

But here’s the other thing, if you are a light-spender or an F2P, you just can’t use your hard-earned Primogems and Fates willy-nilly.

The only advice I can give you really is to make sure you don’t want Tighnari in your character roster.

That way, you can enjoy saving up for other future character releases.

What if I want to get Tighnari but also want a future character? What about my primogems?

With a new map being released, there are tons of world quests, challenges, achievements, and events just teeming with rewards.

Although it may seem slim, there is a possibility of being able to get Tighnari and saving up enough Primogems from exploring Sumeru for the next character you want.

It will, however, take a significant effort for you to do so.

And from what we know about Tighnari so far, he’s looking like a very formidable DPS for your future Dendro team. We'll have more on Tighnari when 3.0 releases!
