How to select items that are not next to each other (2024)

Summary

By using the mouse and the keyboard, you can select text and graphics, including items that are not next to each other (non-contiguous) in Microsoft Word. For example, you can select a paragraph on page one and a sentence on page three.

Note This is a new feature in Word. You cannot select multiple selections of text in earlier versions of Word.

More Information

  1. Select the first item that you want. For example, select some text.

  2. Press and hold CTRL.

  3. Select the next item that you want.

    Important Be sure to press and hold CTRL while you select the next item that you want to include in the selection.
