As you know, your cabin is in a particular category. For example, a balcony BC cabin. A location upgrade would be to a higher category same type balcony cabin such as BB or BA.
Of course an upgrade could be to a higher type category such as from balcony to premium balcony or mini-suite or full suite.
Location upgrades are upgrades in what Princess thinks, not necessarily what you might think. For example, a BE balcony cabin on the Grand Princess has a relatively large balcony. A location upgrade to a BB or BA cabin would be to a cabin with a smaller balcony. Most passengers would not consider that a true upgrade.
Even an upgrade to a higher category may not be a good upgrade. OZ obstructed oceanview cabin on the Grand Princess to a OF unobstructed oceanview could result in a significantly smaller cabin.
