Select all cells on a worksheet? ›

To select all cells on a worksheet, use one of the following methods: Click the Select All button. Press CTRL+A.

To achieve this, combine the Up, Right, or Left arrow keys with the Ctrl + Shift shortcut. For example, to select all rows above, hold Ctrl + Shift + Up Arrow. Similarly, use Ctrl + Shift + Right Arrow to select all rows to the right and Ctrl + Shift + Left Arrow to select all rows to the left.

To select a contiguous block of cells, click on the first cell and then press and hold the "Shift" key while clicking on the last cell of the block. To select non-contiguous cells, click on the first cell and then press and hold the "Ctrl" key while clicking on each additional cell you want to select.

Hold down the Shift key then click the tab for the last worksheet that you want to reference. Select the cell or range of cells that you want to reference.

Press F5 or CTRL+G to launch the Go To dialog. In the Go to list, click the name of the cell or range that you want to select, or type the cell reference in the Reference box, then press OK. For example, in the Reference box, type B3 to select that cell, or type B1:B3 to select a range of cells.

To select the entire worksheet, you can also press CTRL+A. Note: If the worksheet contains data, CTRL+A selects the current region. Pressing CTRL+A a second time selects the entire worksheet. Select the first cell or range of cells, and then hold down CTRL while you select the other cells or ranges.

Press the CTRL key, and Click to select another cell. Keep the CTRL key pressed down, and continue to choose cells until you have chosen all of the cells you want to use this time.

Select the cell or range of cells. Select Copy or press Ctrl + C. Select Paste or press Ctrl + V.

Use the Go To command to quickly find and select all cells that contain specific types of data, such as formulas. Also, use Go To to find only the cells that meet specific criteria,—such as the last cell on the worksheet that contains data or formatting.

Ctrl + Shift + Down Arrow (Cmd + Shift + Down Arrow on Mac): Selects all rows below the active cell until the next blank row. Ctrl + Shift + End (Cmd + Shift + End on Mac): Selects all cells from the active cell to the last cell of the sheet.

Unprotect the Sheet

If you're not able to highlight any cells in your worksheet, it may be because the sheet is protected so that other people can't accidentally erase or edit important parts of the spreadsheet. It's possible to protect a sheet so that no one can even select cells until the sheet is unprotected again.

To select a larger range, it's easier to click the first cell and hold down the Shift key while you click the last cell in the range. You can scroll to make the last cell visible. To select an entire column or row, click the column or row header.

Type A1000 in the name box located on the left side just below the menu and you would be reaching the 1000th row in excel. Thereafter hold Ctrl + Shift + Right Arrow to select the entire row and the press Upper Arrow to select the entire range of cells till the 1000th row.
