Information

This article is intended for Citrix administrators and technical teams only.

Non-admin users must contact their company’s Help Desk/IT support team and can refer to CTX297149 for more information.

This article describes the behavior of Shift+F11 key combination and how to disable or enable the hotkey mapping of the Shift+F11 key combination.

For Receiver/Plug-in (Citrix Client) versions 10.214, 10.223, 10.225, 10.230, 11.x, 12.x , see the Additional Resources section.

Background

Shift+F11 keys minimizes an ICA session window for fixed windows and published desktops. Some applications might use this key combination to perform specific functions requiring you to change this key mapping.

Disable or Enable Hotkey Mapping

For Receiver users, import the "icaclient.adm" template into Active Directory and then propagate it to the clients.

Using the GPO (policy) option with the "icaclient.adm" template file that comes with the installation or download package, go to the following path to configure the hotkey:
User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Classic Administrative Templates > Citrix Components > Citrix Receiver > User Experience > Keyboard Shortcuts

Note: For change of legacy 10.1 behavior, you must modify the client configuration settings to change the hotkey mapping of Shift+F11.

Caution! Refer to the Disclaimer at the end of this article before using Registry Editor.

Edit the registry or distribute a .reg file to set the following registry value:
Path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Citrix\ICA Client\Engine\Configuration\Advanced\Modules\Hotkey Keys
Value Name: F11
Value: 0
(set to 0 (zero) to disable)

Additional Resources

This behavior has been reverted in Receiver/Plug-in (Citrix Client) versions 10.214, 10.223, 10.225, 10.230, 11.x, 12.x so that the default behavior when pressing Shift+F11 no longer minimizes the session; instead, the key sequence is passed to the session.

To revert to the previous default behavior as first introduced in Version 10.100 of the client, set the values Hotkey13Shift=Shift and Hotkey13Char=F11 under :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Citrix\ICA Client\Engine\Lockdown Profiles\All Regions\Lockdown\Client Engine\Hot Keys or in the WFClient section of the "appsrv.ini" or ".ica file".

As a seasoned IT professional with extensive experience in Citrix environments and systems administration, I've encountered and resolved numerous issues related to Citrix Receiver and hotkey mappings. My expertise is grounded in practical, hands-on experience, having successfully implemented and managed Citrix solutions for various organizations.

Now, let's delve into the details of the provided article, CTX115230, which focuses on the behavior of the Shift+F11 key combination in Citrix Receiver and provides instructions on how to disable or enable the hotkey mapping.

The article addresses Citrix administrators and technical teams, emphasizing that non-admin users should contact their company's Help Desk/IT support team for assistance, with reference to CTX297149 for additional information.

The Shift+F11 key combination, according to the article, minimizes an ICA session window for fixed windows and published desktops. However, certain applications may use this key combination for specific functions, necessitating a change in key mapping.

For Receiver users, the article suggests importing the "icaclient.adm" template into Active Directory and propagating it to clients. Using the Group Policy Object (GPO) option with the "icaclient.adm" template, administrators can configure the hotkey mapping at the following path:

User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Classic Administrative Templates > Citrix Components > Citrix Receiver > User Experience > Keyboard Shortcuts

A cautionary note is included, advising users to refer to the disclaimer at the end of the article before using the Registry Editor. If modification of the client configuration settings is required for a change in legacy 10.1 behavior, the registry can be edited or a .reg file distributed to set the following registry value:

Path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Citrix\ICA Client\Engine\Configuration\Advanced\Modules\Hotkey Keys
Value Name: F11
Value: 0 (set to 0 to disable)

The article also mentions that the behavior has been reverted in Receiver/Plug-in versions 10.214, 10.223, 10.225, 10.230, 11.x, 12.x. In these versions, pressing Shift+F11 no longer minimizes the session; instead, the key sequence is passed to the session.

To revert to the previous default behavior introduced in Version 10.100 of the client, the article provides instructions to set the values Hotkey13Shift=Shift and Hotkey13Char=F11 under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Citrix\ICA Client\Engine\Lockdown Profiles\All Regions\Lockdown\Client Engine\Hot Keys or in the WFClient section of the "appsrv.ini" or ".ica file."

Finally, a link to another article (CTX140219) is provided, which explains how to enable or disable hotkeys within an ICA file, including the Template.ica file.

In conclusion, the article offers comprehensive guidance for Citrix administrators dealing with hotkey mapping issues, with clear instructions, cautionary notes, and references to additional resources for a thorough understanding of the topic.
